HAUS N ATHEN PRESENTS “PRIVATE PLEASURES” BY CAMMIE TOLOUI

In this fantastic exhibition curated by Salomé Burstein, dramatic photographic content, bathed in baroque-like lighting, casts a raw and expansive spectrum of sexuality, fetishes, and often-private aspects of masculinity and clubbing from the ’90s.

Illicit by nature and hidden from the mainstream eye, this universe remains largely unrevealed. The images both sabotage and replicate the transactional dynamics of club culture, past and present.

For this iteration, Toloui’s photographic series is intelligently presented alongside excerpts from a book that, when combined with the images, transport us back to—and beyond—the sinful, exciting, and dark world of 1990s peep shows, and its still-relevant, highly contemporary controversies.
