ILEANA TOUNTA CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER PRESENTS FOTEINI PALPANA – COLOURGROUND
Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center presents the second solo exhibition of Foteini Palpana, THE DREAMSCAPES, whose work boldly transforms the high-ceilinged ground floor of the gallery into a visceral landscape of texture, color, and movement.
Palpana fully inhabits the space with a sweeping wall installation—an immersive dispersion of industrial-scale fabrics and papers. Through layered color, tactile brushwork, and striking contrasts, she creates a sensory experience that evokes both precision and poetic intuition. Each gesture carries a quiet sensibility, weaving a dialogue between material and meaning, form and emotion.
Since 2010, Palpana’s artistic practice has revolved around a deep desire to engage with the landscape—not to conquer it, but to understand its poetic gravity. Her work folds the sea with her hands, digitally deconstructs stone, reconstructs shipwrecks, and inscribes landscapes with silent texts. Whether inhabiting remote islands or reimagining geological forms, she seeks to map the unknown and make the inaccessible feel intimate.
“The relief of the ground and the rock—always a pretext for form,” she notes, as she enters the visual mind of Georges Seurat. In her latest paintings, empathy becomes a method. The rocks and geological memory of Syros, the island of her childhood, become both subject and symbol in her search for connection—between body and landscape, gesture and terrain, intimacy and expanse.
