ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM PIRAEUS PRESENTS ”ODYSSEY”

30.09.2024

Odyssey at the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, curated by Marilena Koutsoukou on the occasion of Posidonia, seamlessly merges contemporary Greek art with the timeless narrative of Homer’s epic. Featuring 24 works by contemporary artists, each piece is paired with one of 24 pivotal verses from the “Odyssey”, creating a dialogue between the ancient and the modern.

The selected artworks are deeply attuned to the key themes of the epic—heroes, journeys, trials, and spiritual transformation—and resonate visually, emotionally, and symbolically with the core ideas of the myth.

The exhibition masterfully intertwines the museum’s distinguished collection with the modern interpretations of the artists, crafting a compelling curatorial experience. The works offer a fresh perspective on the Odyssey, with each artist drawing inspiration from the characters, adventures, and spiritual journeys of the ancient tale, while also reflecting on the enduring relevance of the myth in contemporary life. Odyssey thus becomes not only an exploration of classical themes but also a celebration of the power of storytelling and its capacity to transcend time.
