Theo Michel’s “Fitzcarraldo” at Alkinois creates a space where history and myth intertwine, blending mixed-culture iconography within a ritualistic sculptural form. Large marble chunks are arranged to form a sculptural volume that balances meticulous construction with the aesthetics of ruin, evoking both archaeological sites and forgotten rituals.
This fusion of past and present blurs the lines between the historical and the ahistorical, prompting reflection on ancient skills, lost techniques, and the rituals that shape our understanding of space, time and beliefs.
The installation form a contemplative environment, where the viewer’s interaction with the work becomes a ritual in itself, inviting new interpretations of memory, belief, and mystic voyeurism.
